When my friends Julianna & Lydia Notten approached me to help pitch a show they were writing, to CBC, I was all-in! The pitch was for a sci-fi, LGBTQ dramedy where “queer teens mysteriously gain superpowers when their biology project goes awry”. My role was to design a teaser poster and a pitch “bible” to assist with potential funding. After reading over the character biographies, episode synopsis, we knew the style should feel youthful, trendy, and be reminiscent of a high-school notebook with doodles, comic book references, hand-lettering and collage.
Pitch Bible
To establish the look and feel, I started with a moodboard to outline the fonts, colours, and imagery style. I knew I wanted the bible to look like a classic composition book, and to set the scene for the readers before they even open the pages. Using lined paper throughout, custom doodles, and curated imagery, the bible consistently brings you into the world of the show. After we were comfortable with the direction and moodboard, I started with the main character bio pages which set the tone for the rest of the layouts.
The 67 page bible was presented to the team at CBC.
